MAHLE develops and produces ready-to-install modules for passenger car and commercial vehicle engines. We can draw on our longstanding experience for this. Modules are built by integrating camshaft bearing houses including rocker arms and rocker arm bearings.

These MAHLE assemblies offer significant advantages in respect to the development expense and logistics as well as simplifications for both complete cylinder head and engine assembly.


Cam follower for roller actuation
The requirements concerning the efficiency, exhaust gas emissions and service life of engines are continually increasing. For modern valve train systems, this means that friction losses have to be reduced while the stability under load has to rise at the same time. An important trend in this respect involves valve train configurations with roller actuation. Roller rockers or roller tappets consist of several individual components, each of which has to fulfill different requirements. The cam followers are optimally designed for the high loads in the valve train. In comparison to sliding actuation, cam followers with roller actuation reveal a significant improvement in the wear characteristics. Components of this type are machined on highly flexible revolving transfer systems, fully automatically mounted and tested.

Flat tappets for sliding actuation
Flat tappets are nowadays preferably used in the engines of medium-sized commercial vehicles, in other words with displacement between five and eight liters. State-of-the-art production technologies are utilized in order to fulfill the geometrical requirements in respect to form, roughness, and tolerances in the ball socket as well as at the shaft and contact surface. Flat tappets for sliding actuation are available with various contact surface materials, depending on the load situation. Chilled cast iron, steel or a hard metal plate soldered on the body material are used here, depending on the application and camshaft material. Coatings specially adapted to the application enable MAHLE to achieve the highest mileage lives with the lowest wear. Quality controls precisely tailored to the individual requirements and production processes ensure components that are perfectly adapted in terms of materials and dimensioning.
