An increase in the specific power and peak pressures of the engine without altering the dimensions - this represents one of the main challenges in the com- mercial vehicle area.
The MAHLE program for commercial vehicles MAHLE develops pistons in the heavy duty area with different materials and types. Pistons made by MAHLE can typically withstand ignition pressures of 200 bar and more, and enable commercial vehicles to achieve a life time of well over a million kilometers in an ideal combination with other components.
Ring carrier pistons of the latest generation MAHLE ring carrier pistons of the latest generation are also effective in commercial vehicles. Equipped with cooling channels and ring carriers, these aluminum pistons cast in gravity die casting remain a preferred economic choice. The hard anodization of the aluminum piston crown enables a further improve- ment in the thermal-shock resistance. Yet, commercial vehicle engines of the highest power classes place even greater demands on pistons. In response to these requirements, MAHLE uses forged steel as piston material, which has proven to be highly effective in this regard. |
