Two-part FERROTHERM® pistons for high loads

In order to meet the challenges posed by loads arising in the high-power engines of commercial vehicles, MAHLE developed the two-part FERROTHERM® piston, which has been in production for over 15 years. In these "articulated pistons", the two piston parts are only joined to each other by the piston pin, i.e. guide and sealing functions are separate.

To compensate for the different temperatures resulting from the poorer thermal conductivity of steel in comparison to aluminum, the steel piston crown has to be cooled.
