Designing the cover on request
Engine cover

Upon customer request, MAHLE provides engine covers made from plastic both as part of an intake system and separately as a functional or design part. Besides higher component stability with reduced weight and the fulfillment of requirements regarding engine acoustics and impermeability, MAHLE engine covers also meet the heightened design demands of vehicle and engine manufacturers.

Modular cylinder head covers: functional and economic
MAHLE cylinder head covers seal the oil-pressurized camshaft space externally. These plastic components are acoustically neutral due to sufficient ribbing, but can contribute significantly towards reducing the engine noise thanks to a decoupling from the cylinder head. In new developments, MAHLE is increasingly integrating the oil mist separator with pressure regulator and blow-by heating—if required by the relevant engine concept—in the cylinder head covers. This new modular approach by MAHLE enables economic and functional advantages to be combined.

New developments - cylinder head covers for diesel engines in commercial vehicles
Plastic is becoming increasingly important as a material for cylinder head covers in modern commercial vehicles. The driving forces for this development are: weight saving with an increase in the integration density as well as design requirements. The freedom of design when using plastic opens up a whole new spectrum of opportunities. We consider ourselves a pioneer in plastic technology for these engine families.

The main functions such as sealing the crankcase, protecting the valve train and covering peripheral parts must be ensured despite increasingly higher temperatures. The reduction of structure-borne noise is a further requirement. Cylinder head covers are also used as access and standing areas in commercial vehicles. Oil filler nozzles, daily oil filling, sensors, and cable harness fixations are integrated. Integration of the crankcase ventilation can also result in space saving and hence increase the overall rigidity.

Customer-specific surface grains, paintwork and design elements provide a cost-effective solution in the commercial vehicle segment as well. Assembly and disassembly are made easier thanks to the low weight as well as the preassembling of fastening elements and gaskets secure against loss.
